Backpacking Companion wanted for a backpacking trip to start in North Adams Mass. Going north. I will be leaving on June 26, 2008 and if all goes well return home during the week of July 27.
I am comfortable with 10 – 15 miles per day and taking a zero or nero every 5 – 7 days. I am not necessarily looking for someone to hike step for step just someone to meet up with for meals and night camping. If you do not have that amount of time a companion for part of the trip will be fine.
I am 66 years old and in good hiking shape as I work out all year.
If you would like to discuss this further please email RGRANRATH44 at comcast.net

POC President’s message One year ago you elected me president of your club and this year once again you have re-elected me your president. I thank you for your confidence and now it is time to reflect back upon my accomplishments. The truth is there are none, however twenty some odd of our members have made this year an outstanding year. Every weekend had hiking events, thanks to our many trail guides Frank Allen, Don Bonnet, Stephanie Croteau, Linda & Dave Domico, Flo & Tony Gatto, Roy Kleinel, Charlie Lentz, Karen Livingood, Tom & Rosemary Miller, John Motz, Dan O'Rouke, WIll Ochlmann, Sue Prendegast, Steve & Joan Simpson, George & Jean Singlemann and Bob Wacker. There was a great Delaware Rive Kayak/Canoe trip (17 miles, just a little long) thanks to George Singlemann...oops that's me, and two super days on two different lakes (Beltzville and Promised Land) thanks to Tom & Rosemary Miller. The Millers also coordinated a weekend camping hiking trip upstate We lost our newsletter editor Stephanie Croteau when she move to Our membership drive was somewhat disappointing but never the less we did manage to recruit some twenty new members, hopefully we can do better next year. Our annual meeting was a great success and well attended. The changes to the By Laws were approved (see p....for details) The slate of officers are as follows: as I previously mentioned I was re-elected as President (2 year term), Roy Kleinel as Vice President (one year tern), Judy Zarach as Secretary (one year term), Rosemary Hubner as Treasurer (two year term). It should be noted that Rosemary Miller who has been our Treasurer for four years has stepped down; however she has consented to remain our historian. Thank you Rosemary for your years of service. Also Jean Singlemann has stepped down as Secretary but has agreed to accept the position of Hospitality Coordinator. Well I thank we have had a truly eventful and successful year, thanks to all of our dedicated members. Thank you, Thank you, to all who have participated. I look forward to next year and I ask each of you to continue to support and step forward and make 2009 an even better year than 2007. Your President, George Singlemann

The Pocono Outdoor Club Trail Care Program started in the early 1990’s by Tim Clegg, shortly after the Club was formed. Since that time, the Club has logged thousands of hours in the woods caring for our area trails, clearing brush, painting blazes, building new trails, mitigating erosion, etc. In an effort to gain more hours from our maintainers, we designed a POC Trail Care Crew Volunteer Maintainer shirt. The shirts are awarded each year at the Annual Membership Dinner to those volunteers who invested significant time doing trail work. Currently, attendance at 3 Trail Care events or 20 hours is required to earn a shirt. In 2007 we broke the record for most shirts awarded. Way to go Crew! This years Trail Care Crew Tee awardees are: Tony and Flo Gatto, Charlie Lentz, Roy Klienle, Tom and Rosemary Miller, George Singlemann and Judy Zarach.
Another great season of trail stewardship was logged in 2007, with the POC Trail crew accumulating over 500 hours again. What did we do for over 500 hours? Here is some of the trail work our VOLUNTEERS got done:
Big
Collected rocks from North Trail for erosion control on North and Indian Trails
Installed some water bars on Indian Trail, with some to go ('08!)
Cleared brush on upper Indian Trail, South Trail, Upper North Trail and North Trail Lower Loop
Installed signs on North Trail Lower Loop
Cleared Thunder Swamp Trail north of Pennel Run to 402
Blazed Thunder Swamp Trail west of 402
Cleared Bruce Lake Trails east and west of lake and Red Oak Ridge Trail (62-65)
Blazed Bruce Lake Trail (62-65)
Cleared
Cleared Orchard Trail
Moved a ton of rock at
Promised
Cleared and Blazed Boundary and Short Trails (82-83-85)
A HUGE THANK YOU to all the POC members and the Keystone Trails Trail care Crew for all their hard work in 2007. And don't worry, there's no shortage of work for '08. We'll be continuing our work at Big Pocono SP and Delaware SF. As always, if you see any trail anomalies at any of these, or other local trails that need attention; please contact our trail crew coordinator
John Motz at trailbldr@hotmail.com or call 570-236-1462.
